- These conversions are approximations—no perfect formula exists
- US universities often require official credential evaluation (WES, ECE, SpanTran) for final conversion
- Different Indian universities may use different CGPA scales (some use 4.0, 5.0, or other scales)
- The 9.5 multiplier applies specifically to CBSE; other boards may differ
FAQ
Some universities accept CGPA out of 10 and evaluate it internally. Others require a formal credential evaluation from services like WES (World Education Services). Check the specific requirements of each university you're applying to.
On a 10.0 scale, 8.0 is considered good (equivalent to roughly a 3.2 on the 4.0 scale). For competitive US graduate programs, a CGPA of 8.5+ (≈3.4+ GPA) is typically expected.
