What is Semester GPA?
Your semester GPA (also called term GPA) is the Promedio de Calificaciones for a single academic term—such as Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer term. It considers only the courses you took during that specific semester, not your entire academic history.

How to Calcular GPA Semestral
The formula is the same as regular GPA—you just limit the courses to one semester:
- List all courses from the semester
- Note the credits and letter grade for each
- Convert grades to grade points
- Multiply grade points × credits for each course
- Sum all quality points and divide by total credits

How Semester GPA Affects Cumulative GPA
Your cumulative GPA is the weighted average of all your semester GPAs. A strong semester raises your cumulative GPA, and a weak semester lowers it. The impact depends on how many credits you took that semester relative to your total.
For example, if you have a 3.5 cumulative GPA over 60 credits, and you earn a 4.0 over 15 new credits, your new cumulative GPA would be: (3.5 × 60 + 4.0 × 15) / 75 = (210 + 60) / 75 = 3.60.

Semester GPA only reflects one term, while cumulative GPA reflects your entire academic history. If your semester grades differ from your historical average, the two numbers will be different.
It depends on how many total credits you have. Early in your college career, each semester has a large impact. After 60+ credits, one bad semester has a smaller (but still noticeable) effect on your cumulative GPA.
